For most of our clients, tax is the single largest line item in their financial life. We plan around it all year, not just in April.
By the time your accountant files your return, almost every tax decision that mattered has already been made: when you sold the vested RSUs, how you paid yourself from the corporation, which account the savings went into. Filing reports the past. Planning changes it.
That’s the work we do. We look ahead at the income you know is coming (vests, bonuses, dividends, a potential sale) and structure things before the deadline passes.
If you’re a high-earning employee, the problem is usually equity compensation: RSUs taxed as income at vest, options with their own rules, and a T1 that needs real optimization rather than default settings.
If you’re incorporated, the problem is structure: salary vs. dividends, what stays in the corporation, whether a holding company makes sense, and how to invest corporate dollars tax-efficiently. We work through all of it alongside your accountant, so the plan and the filing agree with each other.
No. Your accountant files; we plan. We work alongside them so the strategy is set before the tax year ends, not discovered after it.
If you have RSUs or options, yes. Vest timing, sell decisions and registered account usage all change what you keep. The T1 of a tech employee with equity comp has more moving parts than most business returns.
